Zofemat removes 142 tons of Sargassum from Cozumel shores

 

More than 142 tons of sargassum has been removed from the east side of the island of Cozumel. Mayor Pedro Joaquín Delbouis reported the cleaning, which was done by staff from the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat). The Director of Cozumel Zofemat, Ricardo Lizama Escalante, reported that as part of their permanent program, they began removing the seaweed in February due to its slightly early arrival. During that month, they collected over 142 tons of the algae along with 800 kilos of garbage.

Lizama Escalante pointed out that cleaning was carried out on the main public beaches of Punta Morena, Mirador Chumul, Chen Río, San Martín and Playa Bonita.“The cleaning is done in order to guarantee citizens and visitors a healthy and clean ecosystem, which is a commission from the mayor,” he said. Lizama is asking people who go to the beaches to not only follow health protocols, but also ensure garbage in placed in the bins, which he points out, are located at the viewpoints of Chumul, Chen Río and San Martín, as well as in the parking spaces.. Cozumel Considering Opening Cruise Operations to European Lines

“There is constant communication with the United States authorities and the Caribbean Cruise Association and there is nothing scheduled for this first quarter, so together with the Secretary of Tourism, we propose that we be a home port,” Joaquin Delbouis told the Riviera Maya News.

As a result, Joaquin Delbouis and other officials in Cozumel have reached out to European cruise lines like MSC Cruises, which successfully sailed through the Caribbean recently without touching North American soil.

Mexico’s Plan for COVID -19 vaccination

 

The Secretary of Health announced today, December 8, how the vaccination plan will be and the time it will take to apply the vaccine. vaccination will start with health personnel and subsequently be prioritized according to the level of risk of having severe COVID as it may be age and comorbidities. (The persons at high risk with diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, etc.). it is expected that by the first trimester of 2022 the vaccination of the entire population of the Republic of Mexico will conclude.

Stage Two

February 2021 – April 2021

The remaining Health Personnel and people age 60 and over

Stage Three

April 2021 – May 2021

Persons 50 – 59 years of age

Stage Four

May 2021 – June 2021

Persons 40 – 49 years of age

June 2021- March 2022
