State of Mexico suspends operations of Boeing 737 Max

After the recent Boeing 737 Max plane crash in Ethiopia, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation says that the state of Mexico has joined the list, suspending operations of the aircraft until further notice.

In a press release by la Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes, la Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil has announced the state’s decision to suspend all national and international operations of the Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 aircraft until further notice.

The decision was made based on information from international aeronautical authorities from which the Mexican Aeronautical Authority considers it necessary to apply actions that guarantee the safety and confidence of users in the state’s airspace. Several airlines and aeronautical authorities around the world have also expressed their position to no longer allow the Boeing Max 737 to land at their airports. Read more>>>

Quintana Roo projected to see 65% investment increase in 2019


Quintana Roo has been projected as being one of the strongest economies in the country for this year, not only in terms of tourism, but also in investments.

According to El Instituto de Desarrollo y Financiamiento de Quintana Roo (Idefin), the state is anticipated to see a 65 percent increase in its economy with projects in real estate, health, communications and technology.

They report that over the course of the year, 15 foreign-investment projects are already set for both the north and south. The investment groups are from the United States, Canada, Spain and France and the projects are focused on the real estate, health, communications, technology and agro-industry sectors. In 2018, according to data from la Secretaría de Economía, Quintana Roo received $274 million USD in foreign investments, mainly from the United States, Spain and Canada, a figure that is forecast to increase dramatically this year. Surveillance cameras installed in busy ports of Cozumel

State port facilities operated by the Administración Portuaria Integral de Quintana Roo (Apiqroo) are in the process of receiving surveillance cameras that will provide more security in the busy areas announced the head of Apiqroo.

Alicia Ricalde, head of Apiqroo said that the installation of 140 video surveillance cameras have begun in various ports around the state with priority being given to Cozumel and Isla Mujeres, who are two of the busiest.

She said that millions of travelers use the Cancun-Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen-Cozumel ferry crossing each year, making them the busiest and thus, receiving priority for the video camera installation. Ricalde said it is important to provide these ports with the greatest level of security with cameras and support of the Federal Police and the Navy. In addition to cameras, the ports will also have x-ray devices for traveler’s luggage as well as additional personnel to ensure secure terminals.

First stone laid for new multi-billion-peso Cancun mega mall

Groundbreaking took place Monday near Cancún (Puerto Morelos) for a 6-billion-peso (US $312 million) mall that will have “the best brands in the world,” according to the CEO of real estate developer Gicsa.

Abraham Cababie, CEO of Gicsa explained that “Grand Outlet will have the best brands in the world. We know what people want because 70 percent of the outlets in the country have been developed by us.”

Construction started this week and is expected to take 18 months, concluding in October 2020 and delivering a mall two or three times bigger than other similar venues in the area.

Sprawling over more than 250,000 square meters, the mall will be home to 160 stores and 16 entertainment options.

There will also be a 7,500-seat auditorium, areas of water covering over 80,000 square meters, an amusement park, a go-kart track described as the largest in the world and a hot air balloon. Read more>>>
