Over 760 sea turtle nests have been reported along a 20 kilometer
stretch of beach on the east side of the island. Mauiricio Martin
Mendoza, the Deputy Director of Ecology, says so far, the 2021 nesting
season consists of 468 green turtle nests and 292 loggerhead. He also says to date, 1,083 eggs have hatched.
Officials from the Ecology Subdirectorate do night marking,
inspections and surveillance along the beaches and nesting areas due to

Estimated arrival of 10,000 tourists a day during the summer in Cozumel.
Port authorities indicated that 80 percent of the tourism that arrives
on the island of Cozumel is national and 20 percent is foreign; the
business sector seeks to reestablish pre-pandemic sea crossing schedules.
The presence of national tourists registers a rebound
at the beginning of the summer vacation season, since 80 percent of
those who arrive by sea through the federal route from Playa del Carmen,
come from other states of the country, according to Administration
authorities Portuaria Integral de Quintana Roo (Apiqroo), who estimate
that approximately 10,000 travelers cross to Cozumel every day.

Mexico’s Plan for COVID -19 vaccination
The Secretary of Health announced today, December 8, how the
vaccination plan will be and the time it will take to apply the vaccine.
vaccination will start with health personnel and subsequently be
prioritized according to the level of risk of having severe COVID as it
may be age and comorbidities. (The persons at high risk with diabetes,
high blood pressure, obesity, etc.). it is expected that by the first
trimester of 2022 the vaccination of the entire population of the
Republic of Mexico will conclude.

Cozumel installs covid lab test at ferry terminal
The lab provides both antigen and PCR testing
Travelers on the island of Cozumel will now be able to undergo a
Covid-19 test prior to ferry boarding. The news came from the general
director of the Comprehensive Port Administration of Quintana Roo,
(APIQROO) who says starting February 18, the ferry terminal at Cozumel
will begin operating its portable lab.
APIQROO head Alicia Ricalde Magaña says the Cozumel maritime terminal
will have a Marko Teck Laboratory module from where tests can be
carried out to detect the presence of the virus. She said that the port area of Cozumel is one more option for
international tourists who are in need of a negative covid test to
return to the country of origin. The portable lab will be able to
provide antigen test results in about 20 minutes and PCR test results in
about two hours.
