Improving healthcare for seniors through telemedicine

Wouldn't it be easier for the senior to stay in contact and receive care via telemedicine with their current doctor they know and are comfortable with? The bill allows healthcare professionals who are Medicare providers and are licensed to practice physically in one state to be able to treat Medicare patients electronically in any other jurisdiction.

It would also permit that when a provider who has been granted a license to physically provide care within a state or jurisdiction becomes a Medicare provider, he or she may provide care electronically to those with whom they have an established patient-provider relationship regardless of where the patient is located.

By connecting a provider and patient virtually from any location and at any time, care can be obtained almost immediately resulting in improved patient outcomes from a trusted provider at a lower cost.

Breaking down the interstate licensure barriers for telemedicine that currently exist in the Medicare program will help seniors gain access to quality, affordable healthcare.

Happy New Year from Cozumel

Fireworks are lit and champagne glasses are toasted at the stroke of midnight between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. “Feliz Año Nuevo!” is often the first expression that is shared among friends and family on January 1 – it simply means “Happy New Year”.

Celebratory meals that are eaten on New Year's Eve and reheated on New Year's Day include: bacalao (dried, salted codfish); buñuelos (fried dough ball dessert); and ponche (fruit punch). It is common for family and friends to get together later during the day to eat the leftovers (recalentado).http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/mexico/new-year-day

Members of the Trashy Group push the 2013 Bag Counter over the top!

GRAND TOTAL for 2013 = 1030 Bags!

Members of the Trashy Group pushed for a huge year end finish in the last few days of December to surpass our 1000 bag goal by 30+ bags. Last minute reports from members, as well as extra personal efforts made all the difference in finishing strong for 2013. Huge thanks go out to everyone in the group who continually helps out, gets sweaty, and loves to make a difference on our island. This community rocks! Special thanks to Elisa at PASA who has hauled 99% of those bags to the landfill for us - we love you Elisa Fernanda Martinez Arteaga!

I encourage everyone to head over to one or more of our sponsors sometime and let them know their support is appreciated - for a complete list of sponsors check out the list found under "Files" on our facebook page. I really want to express my gratitude to the sponsors who give a gift every month - no questions asked - for their generosity.....Señor Frogs, Buccanos, Cariloha and Del Sol Shops, Cozumel Bar Hop, Guidos, La Choza, La Hach Cozumel, Papa Hogs Hogtown Cafe, and Prima Trattoria. Its so nice to have the support of many members of the business community. Also, thanks to our extra special bag donors!

In 2014 lets all try to make small steps in our own lives to reduce our plastic footprint, spread the word, educate, and be a shining example of what an involved community can do. Today the bag counter is full to the brim and our faces are smiling full of well deserved pride in our effort. Now we begin a New Year and a renewed effort to help keep Cozumel the gift from nature she deserves to be. The first event of the new year will be Sunday Jan 19th, 2014. Please find us on facebook for details and to find out how to get involved! Near or far, there are many ways to contribute to a cleaner Cozumel.

Happy New Year Trashy Friends!
