Grupo Xcaret given green light for berthing on Cozumel


More berthing space will be made in Cozumel, this time for a ferry service. Grupo Xcaret has been granted environmental authorization for the berthing of their vessels, which they will use to take passengers directly to their parks. Carmen Joaquín Hernández, president of the Cozumel Business Coordinating Council, recalled that the project was presented to them in 2019, by the CEO of Xcaret, Miguel Quintana Pali.

The two Xcaret boats, each with a 650-person capacity, would use the Cozumel space to moor. It could be shared space with the Ultramar ferry company. Carmen Joaquín referred to the project as positive, saying it diversifies the economy by possibly receiving publicity from Xcaret, which in turn, could mean more visitors to the island.

COVID-19 Update

 

 

The traffic light from December 20 to 26 continues in the GREEN STAGE throughout Quintana Roo. According to this chart all businesses are functioning at a normal level and services are at 100% capacity. In transportation, only two people can ride motorcycles. Private vehicles can transport a maximum of five people. Only four people can ride in a taxi, including the driver. Public transportation is at 100% capacity.

 

 

 

Cozumel steps up security at all ferry docks during the busy holiday season

 

 

Security has been stepped-up on the island of Cozumel with the increase of visitors during the holiday season. Captain Rodrigo Rodríguez Peña, director of Public Safety and Traffic of Cozumel says police, in coordination with the Mexican Navy, National Guard and National Migration Institute (INM) have resumed joint operations at all passenger docks.

Rodriguez says that both documentation and luggage are being reviewed by arriving and departing ferry passengers. He pointed out that on instruction of mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo, the operations were resumed in order to detect weapons, explosives or psychotropic substances being brought onto the island.

He added that a similar operation is also being carried out at the fiscal dock as well as the cargo docks that operate from Punta Venado to Cozumel.. Read more>>>
