The February Trashy Little Event teamed up with the "Tip the Island" Party and saw 58 bags of trash removed from the beaches - and a great time had by all. Dozens of participants spent a gorgeous Cozumel morning picking up marine debris and roadside litter between Mezcalitos and Playa San Martin. CARNIVAL 2012

What better way to start of 2012 than the celebration of Carnival in Cozumel. It seems that every year, Cozumel tries to outdo itself from previous years with beautiful new decorations along Melgar to the pre-carnival events at Moby Dick, all the way until the last parade on Fat Tuesday.

All of the events this year hosted in Moby Dick were sold out. From the induction of the King & Queen, to the concerts by famous Mexican artists such as Paulina Rubia. During the 3 days of parades the streets were lined shoulder to shoulder with people wearing colorful costumes and waiting eagerly to get thrown their next beaded necklace. The beer was flowing and the party was rocking.

It will be amazing to see what Cozumel comes up with next year. Each year Carnival is a big boost to tourism and economy of the island. It is an event that everyone looks forward to and will just grow bigger and better each year.

We have been very busy as buyer activity has increased significantly over the last 3-4 weeks. Mexico Economy

"Mexico doing well: low debt, low deficit, low inflation, good growth. Emerging markets in much better shape than most advanced economies.”

The Mexican government has launched a new campaign, Mundo Maya to encourage visitors to travel Mexico before the Mayan calendar of 2012 ends. This campaign is hoped to generate 52 million tourist by the end of the year.

Its GDP growth for 2011 was 4.5% and projected growth for 2012, though down on previous years, is at 3.5%. "Mexico needs to keep growing and distance itself from fiscal crises in other countries," said the country's then finance secretary, Ernesto Cordero, last year.

As a result of a better economy, prices of properties in Cozumel are rebounding.

Mexico Tourism Booming Again

Despite relentless coverage of the outbreak of the H1N1 crisis and the Mexican drug war by U.S. news media over the last several years, tourism to Mexico is rebounding strongly. The number of travelers to Mexico is expected to increase this year with the worldwide interest of the ancient calendar of the Maya ending in December.

"Mexico's tourism industry is undergoing a stunning transformation - based on a bold strategy of diversification - focused on promoting a broader range of tourism products aimed at attracting a new breed of global consumer." Even the U.S. State Department has begun to recognize the nuanced nature of "Safety" in Mexico, issuing Travel Advisories that reflect what the vast majority of visitors are likely to encounter on the ground in Mexico: "Millions of U.S. citizens safely visit Mexico each year for study, tourism, and business, including more than 150,000 who cross the border every day," the State Department reports in its most recent advisory.

As tourism rebounds in Mexico, more balanced coverage is being reported in the U.S. media.
