September 15 Cozumel residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in the traditional cry for Independence made by the Mayor of Cozumel. This year the cry will be from the balcony of the Department of Tourism located at Plaza del Sol in Benito Juarez Park at 11:00 pm. After the cry there will be fireworks and other festivities that include traditional Mexican dishes, dances and folk music.

Then, September 16, Independence Day, the celebrations continue with a parade along the coastal avenue of Cozumel. Throughout the week you can enjoy in the Town Hall Square several activities related to this Mexican celebration.

 

Road collapsed in Cancun

CANCUN, MX.- The tourist destinations of Cancun and the Riviera Maya were partially incomunidos the early hours of Thursday an unexpected collapse of the road, one kilometer from the hotel Iberostar, which forced the closure of the road in both directions.

Mérida ousts Colima as Mexico’s top city

 

Move over, Colima, Mérida has moved into the top spot on the National Quality of Life Index, a measurement of the best and the worst cities in which to live. The capital of Yucatán edged up from last year’s second place to oust Colima, the capital of the state with the same name, which moved down to sixth place in the fourth annual survey of Mexico’s most habitable cities.

Mérida scored 83.3 points out of 100 on an index based on residents’ views about housing, schooling, mobility, cleanliness, recreational opportunities, citizen coexistence, museums and historical places, natural beauty, quality of life compared to last year and quality of life compared to the rest of the country. Conducted by the polling firm Gabinete de Comunicación Estratégica through a survey of 30,400 people, the study took in the 60 most populous municipalities.
