The August Trashy Little Event took place on August 7th and we are happy to report that 50 big bags of trash were removed from the beach just north of the Rasta Bar on Cozumel's eastern shore. Seen here are a couple of the photos from when we first started cleaning this area in May, and then shots from after the August event. What a HUGE difference we are making in this area. During the event, Michael and Jennifer Lewis happened upon two baby turtles trapped in a rocky pool. The lucky fellows were taken to the conservation authorities and set free that evening. Ou lala Boutique , Kinta Mexican Bistro , Restaurant La Choza The Cozumel Living Team donated a snazzy new Trash Can which has been put into service at the beach area south of Chen Rio. We are hoping this trial project will succeed, and encourage others to develop innovative ways to help keep Cozumel litter and trash free for future generations. FYI, our 2011 Bag Counter is up to well over 500 bags , and the next event is Sunday September 11th.

Our real estate market is tied very closely with what is going on in the US, this is why our prices are down. When people's situation in the US changes, some have had to sell quickly, thus they have had to reduce their prices. Most of these great deals are drying up. We have actually had more Mexican and Canadian buyers than US recently. We have also seen an increase in sales and rentals from people in the Medical tourism industry which is growing here. What a lovely, less expensive place to come have your surgery done and convalesce.
I love Cozumel. The beautiful, crystal turquoise water, tropical fish, and friendly people have not changed in the almost 30 years that I have been coming to the island. It's still very safe and the people are wonderful. Our infrastructure has grown tremendously and there is almost nothing we can't get here on the island, making it a wonderful place to live year round. The big change is you see almost no VW bugs anymore and many nice Mercedes, Hummers, BMW's, high end sport utility vehicles are everywhere. That's probably one of the biggest shocks for someone that hasn't been to Cozumel in awhile.
Our summers, while hot, are nothing compared to the intense heat in Texas and Arizona for example, and there's always that beautiful, crystal clear water you can get in to cool off. We are still a laid back beautiful Caribbean island that you should come and explore soon.
