July Trashy Little Event is a Huge Success

July 10th marked the day for the Trashy Little Group event for July. Group members collected an impressive 80 big bags of trash from Cozumel's eastern shore, south near the Rasta Bar. This is the second event in this general area, and the results are starting to really shine through. The July event also ushered in exciting new teamwork with our Trashy Friends at PASA! The city truck, with the help of Elisa Fernanda Martinez Arteaga, came out to haul the bags off to the landfill. Wind energy project in Quintana Roo

The investment will be by Cannon Power Group, as part of a wind power project that includes three wind farm plants in Mexico, one in Baja California, one in Zacatecas and Quintana Roo.

The Mexico Power Group over the next five years will construct three wind turbine plants in different parts of Mexico. One will be in Cozumel, and should cut power bills as much as 15%. The Power Group will generate up to 400 megawatts of wind energy on a wind farm that will consist of three stages and installation of 350 wind turbines.
The first wind farm could be operating in January 2012 and could sell even to the Riviera Maya. Cozumel was elected for its geographical and hydrographic features. The wind farm "Cozumel 1" will be built on the south part of the island now owned by the state government. The wind farm will produce between 50 and 85 megawatts initially.

The minimum down is 25% and the Debt to Income (DTI) Ratio can be as high as 42%, depending on the program selected.



Turtle Nesting Season Underway

The Department of Ecology & Environment has been busy this turtle season. Since the nesting season began in late May, already over 600 nests have been identified. Of these nests 75 of them are loggerhead turtles, or as they’re commonly known caguamas, and 56 are from green sea turtles. Volunteer brigades are patrolling the eastern side of the island from Mezcalito’s down to the ecological reserve “Faro Celarain” in search of nests. 

That is why we are asking not to take dogs to the other side so they do not dig holes and take out the eggs and also the scent of dogs may discourage a female turtle to find a place free of predators to nest.
