Cozumel awarded as best diving destination 2019


The island of Cozumel has been recognized as the best diving destination in Mexico and the Caribbean in the latest Diving Equipment and Marketing Association (DEMA) exhibition.

“We are very happy that during the DEMA Show 2019, like last year, Cozumel was awarded as the best dive site in all of Mexico and the Caribbean. Great work has been done through platforms such as the Cozumel Scuba Fest that puts the island on the international map,” said Pablo Aguilar Torres, CPTM representative in the island. City surveillance equipment goes up in Cozumel

The installation of antennas and wireless cameras have begun around Cozumel in a bid to monitor high-risk areas.

José Vázquez Pech, City Council Systems Director, says that the installation of the first 46 cameras will be complete by the end of the year. He says that the antennas and cameras recently arrived, as did the team required to install the equipment.

As announced by Municipal President, Pedro Joaquín Delbouis, the installation of the cameras will go toward helping improve security on the island and continue to reduce the crime rate.

Vázquez Pech explained that they had been working for awhile on the electrical installations in areas where the equipment is required, and now with the arrival of equipment, the placement of the wireless antennas on the poles has begun. Mangrove restoration project sees 25 pink flamingos call Cozumel home

After five years of restoration work on the mangrove ecosystem in the Punta Sur Ecotourism Park, the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation has registered a colony of approximately 25 pink flamingos.

The birds were recorded in the Chunchacaab lagoon area, which is being noted as a positive indicator that the ecosystem is in good health and is becoming a shelter for these birds that are emblematic in the Yucatecan Peninsula.

During this year, the arrival of the 25 pink flamingos was detected in the mangrove restoration area that includes both adults and young birds. Parque Ecoturístico Punta Sur director Jesús Benavides Andrade, says some of the birds have remained in the area throughout the year.. Read more>>>

 

 


 

Ultramar water taxi service for Cozumel to begin in December

 

 

An executive of Ultramar says it will begin its water taxi service to the center of Cozumel starting December.

Arturo Báez Vega says Ultramar will begin with two 150-passenger boats that will be used to transport cruise ship passengers to access the city center. “It is a transportation service between the cruise ship docks and the center of Cozumel,” says Báez Vega. “We plan to start operations in December with the start of the high season. They will be two units that will leave the pier of Puerta Maya and SSA to the pier of the center of Cozumel. They are 150 passenger vessels,” he added.

He explained that “In the forum, a study based on information that the FCCA gave us shows an economic increase could be generated for the center of Cozumel from $250,000 USD to $600,000 if we were able to transport 3,500 passengers.”

The service will be round trip, he noted, saying the cost will be $8 USD.

“Transferring 3,500 tourists, which is feasible on a day full of cruises, would be practically impossible to do in taxis,” he said adding that “Land and water transport can work harmoniously.” Read more>>>

 

 

 

PROCESS TO GET YOUR TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT RESIDENCY IN MEXICO:

In the States you have to go to the nearest Mexican Consulate and apply for a VISA.  

 

Steps to follow to apply for Mexico Visa
  1. Step 1: Download the visa application form. ...
  2. Step 2: Fill up the visa application form. ...
  3. Step 3: Gather the required documents for visa application. ...
  4. Step 4: Provide photograph for your visa application. ...
  5. Step 5: Check the visa application fee.
  6. Turn this in at your Mexican Consulate and bring what they give you back to Mexico Immigration.

 

 

Once in Mexico, the process is currently taking between two to two and a half months once you bring this information to Mexican Immigration to get your card.
Once Immigration receives the file then
 we have to wait around 5 weeks for a verification of data, 
Then another 1 week to schedule the appointment of fingerprints and signatures 
and another 2 weeks to physically receive the credential (Immigration card)

It's important to mention you can obtain a permit to leave the country
(Valid for 60 days) ......and then continue the process of your file from your country.
  

 


 

Mayor says new lighting will make Cozumel one of best lit in Mexico

An investment of 60 million peso will place Cozumel as one of the best illuminated cities in the country, says its mayor, Pedro Joaquín Delbouis.The Municipal President says that he will do social justice to island residents with the installation of 6,200 LED lights in 36 colonies and along 12 avenues which will providing greater security for islanders.

After the removal of existing lighting, the new project entails the installation of 6,200 high-efficiency LED emitting diodes along with 200 metal posts and 737 metal arms. Joaquín Delbouis explained that with the new technology, they anticipate an annual savings of nearly 45 percent or around 8.7 million peso, which he adds, will be used for other municipality projects.Read more>>
