Cozumel awarded 2022 Best Diving Destination in the World during Madrid International Tourism Fair
Cozumel was named the Best Diving Destination in the World during the
International Tourism Fair in Spain. The distinction was made last
week, during the international fair in Madrid.
Cozumel mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo, made the award announcement
during the International Tourism Fair (FITUR). She said Cozumel was
distinguished with the “Best Diving Destination in the World” award
during the Travelers Awards 2022 in Madrid.
She explained that the award recognizes companies, destinations and
institutions that have contributed to tourism. Marrufo expressed her
thanks for the Island of Cozumel being chosen among many other
destinations in the world.
“To receive this important recognition that not only distinguishes
the destination, but also rewards the work carried out by the thousands
of workers in the tourism sector who get up every day at very early
hours to serve visitors and offer them the best of themselves, so that
visitors have a good experience,” she said.
She added that the municipal government collaborates with the
National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) to preserve the
island’s reefs, since this award demonstrates once again, that it is the

A small cruise ship from the Bahamas has been welcomed by Cozumel officials. The vessel Ocean Voyager, operated by Victory Holdings, was welcomed upon docking the island.
Cozumel mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo said the ship arrived at the
Punta Langosta international pier with approximately 80 passengers. The
vessel spent the day before setting sail to cover its cabotage route,
docking at other ports in Quintana Roo, Yucatán and Campeche.
The Cozumel Director of Tourism, Badih Sleme Flores, gave a cordial welcome to the captain of Ocean Voyager,
Gary Kerr, whom he invited to enjoy of the natural beauties of the
island and to continue including Cozumel on its coastal tours of the
Yucatan Peninsula.
The Ocean Voyager is a river cruise type vessel with a
length of 91 meters and a beam of 15 meters. It has capacity for 222
passengers plus crew. It sailed from Cozumel to Seybaplaya, Campeche,

The Cozumel Taxi Syndicate, has announced that due to the change of
color of the state’s epidemiological traffic light to yellow, the public
is informed that the maximum vehicle passenger capacity allowed for
taxi service has changed.
Sedan-type vehicles will have a maximum capacity of three passengers. Vans will have a maximum capacity of eight passengers.
The law prohibits a passenger riding in the front passenger seat.
Mexican government awards concession for 4th Cozumel dock
Mexico has awarded a 20-year concession to local operator Muelles del
Caribe to construct and operate a fourth cruise dock on Cozumel island
in Quintana Roo state.
Published in the official gazette on
Wednesday, January 5th, the concession title states that the project
will require an investment of 335mn pesos (US$16mn), about 216mn pesos
less than originally announced, when the first stage of the 2020-24
national infrastructure program (PNI) was presented in October 2020.
However, the investment is for construction only, so equipment and operations will require additional funds.
The publication of the concession title also mentions that the dock
will cover an area of 58,730m2 and that it will involve a passenger
terminal and a road link with Cozumel’s urban area.
