Trashy Group Begins Strong in the New Year

We're off and running for 2013! The January event was widely attended by both tourists, expats living on the island, and local residents for a whopping 61 bags to kick off the bag counter for 2013. It was especially nice to see many new faces, new prize sponsors, and such great cheer brought to bear on the problem of beach trash on our shores. In addition to the January event, the group Cozumel Unido had a very successful cleanup January 20th on the beach just
north of Mezcalitos that saw 8 big bags chucked into the bag counter in this beautiful, but terribly polluted area. Individual efforts also contributed 19 more bags of trash removed near Punta Morena. Thanks to everyone who helps keep our beautiful island free of trash. It is helping, it is working, and more and more people are getting involved all the time. KUDOS!

CARNAVAL 2013

Residents and visitors can look forward to bright costumes, lively dances and colorful floats for the main parade which heads down the "Malecon" or boardwalk along the downtown beachfront. In Cozumel, the costumes and dancing take on a somewhat Mayan theme, reflecting the island's heritage. Of course, there will also be lots of music and dancing, and plenty of great food.
In Cozumel, the festival has over 130 years of history and it's one of the best Carnival festivals in the region!
  
Carnaval officially begins 2/6/2013 with parades Saturday 2/9 at 6:00pm, Sunday 2/10 at 6:00pm, and the Final Mardi Gras Parade at 6:00pm on Tuesday 2/12

In 2013, we believe that that we will continue to offer mortgages in pesos for foreigners - we do not believe that we are going to have a mortgage option in dollars similar to the mortgages Bancomer/ Compass and Scotiabank used to offer. Nonetheless, peso mortgages have their benefits, for example there are no prepayment penalties, our closing time has been very speedy, and the exchange rate can represent savings for clients paying their monthly peso payments by exchanging dollars. We are going to continue to pressure to expand the market for foreigners, but for the interim we believe that financing will be offered in pesos.
We also had a very impressive 2012 with our national clientele. Cross Border Investment was the broker with the highest average loan amount for the zone! Over the past several years, as a result of increased competition amongst lenders, mortgage conditions have improved significantly. We now have interest rates as low as 9% (a significant improvement for Mexicans), minimum down payments as low as 10%, and mortgages with NO commissions. We believe that in 2013 we are going to see even more improvements to mortgage conditions while banks compete to capture more of the market.
