Even though we had a rainout for our June event, the Martine family who are frequent visitors to the island, ventured out and collected 7 bags of trash when the skies cleared up in the afternoon. Thank you Martine family! When a rainout occurs, we call out an "Honor Month" and encourage members to get out on their own and pick up a bag of beach trash or litter.
We now have 462 Bags into the Bag Counter. Its going to take a lot of effort to reach our 1000 bag goal this year. Come on out and join us! It's fun and very rewarding. Remember, it's turtle season, and we want our sea friends to have a nice beach to return home to.
Our next event is July 22nd. For information and details join the Trashy Little Group on facebook.
You may find the Trashy Little Group - please join us! on. Join up and join the fun in 2012!

Cross Border Investment Company is offering 4 types of peso mortgages for residential properties:
1) Mexican Nationals working and living in Mexico
2) Foreigners who live and work in Mexico and have an FM2/3.
3) Mexican Nationals working in the US or Canada
4) US and Canadians who work in the US or Canada.
To qualify a buyer must have the standard identification requirements, income verification, and a Mexican credit report. If the potential borrower is purchasing the property with a down payment and bank mortgage, not a government-backed loan like Infonavit or Fovisste, he can borrow up to 90% of the appraised value of the property with a 30-year mortgage term, although a 20 year term is normal. The starting interest rate can be just under 10% and most of the mortgages do not have any prepayment penalty. Sometimes there is a .5 to 1.5% loan original fee on the loan amount depending on the lender. Cross Border Investment is approved with 9 lenders which represents about 95% of all mortgage options available in Mexico.

Cozumel will Celebrate 4th of July

The local government in Cozumel is kind enough to allow the expat community of approximately 5000 to celebrate 4th of July with fireworks, live music, and a great food court in the square. Locals attend as well, even though it's not a Mexican holiday, holiday festivities are always enjoyed in Cozumel anytime.
Increase in Turtle Nesting

400 turtle nests have been marked so far by marine Biologists. That is a 100 nest increase since last week. The season started late April and ends mid September. To volunteer, contact the Cozumel Municipal Department of Ecology and Environment at (987) 872-5795 or email charlesrichard527@hotmail.com. Volunteers meet at Mescalitos on the East side of the island at 9 pm and ends at 5 am. A $55 USD donation is requested to participate. Anyone coming from the US and can bring hats with lights or rolls of flourescent marking tape would be appreciated by the biologists.

Pets fly in Cabin Law Passed

Mexico recently revised one of their aviation laws to now permit pets to fly in cabin on flight in and out of Mexico.
Thanks to everyone who sent messages and called the Mexican Tourism department, the Mexican Aviation Authority listened to us and has now revised the law and pets can once again travel inside the passenger cabins on airplanes to and from Mexico; however, it is now at each individual Airline Company's discretion. If you plan to travel on one of the airlines that have not changed their policy we suggest you start voicing your complaint and concern NOW in hopes that their policy will also change before your travel date.
