The May 6th Trashy Little Event saw 26 bags of trash and part of a refrigerator (I swear we've seen that before) removed from the beaches of Cozumel. That makes 453 bags so far in 2012!
In addition to cleaning up the beach, Nancy Murray De Anda requested group members bring along personal care items in an effort to support the DIF house, Casa Filtro. Casa Filtro is the safe house for women and children who are taken out of abusive/dangerous situations at home, and usually arrive with only the clothes on their backs. The total collected for the day came to130 bars of soap, 4 large tubes of tooth paste, 25 single use toothpaste tubes, 9 bottles of shampoo and conditioner and 39 tooth brushes- plus some bangles for the kids!
As always, we want to give a shout of thanks to our prize sponsors who keep the events lively and fun. If you appreciate their civic responsibility and support of our efforts, please go on in and enjoy these fine establishments:
Guido's Restaurante **** BoB's Cozumel **** The shops of Carlioha and Del Sol Cozumel
La Coza Restaurant *** Pizza Cesar ****
Burritos Gorditos **** Tia Balamcita Wilke (for her incredible jewelry donations)
The Trashy Little Event for June is this Sunday June 3rd. For details find the Trashy Little Group on facebook.

Tourism

On May 17, 2012, it was reported in the El Periodico de Quintana Roo newspaper that our Governor of the state of Quintana Roo, Gov. Roberto Borge, met with Texas Governor Rick Perry in Austin along with Robert Bodish of the Texas DPS (Department of Public Safety) requesting that Texas revise their travel warnings to various parts of Mexico that have no problem with crime. Governor Borge is also the President of the Commission of Tourism representing all the governors of the states in Mexico. Afterwards, Gov. Roberto Borge attended a breakfast represented by 50 local companies, tour operators, cruise ships operators, and communications companies to explain our interdependence on tourism and how the Texas DPS security warnings have hurt tourism especially during this past spring break. As you know, Q. Roo and especially Cozumel have no problem with crime and we feel particularly strong that not all of Mexico should be lumped in with problems occurring along the border.

TRADE MISSION

On May 25, 2012, the Cozumel AMPI, Mexican Board of Real Estate Professionals, hosted 85+ Texas realtors plus 20 National AMPI board members. The Texas realtors came in on the Carnival Magic cruise line where they loaded onto 3 tour buses that took them through the new Fonatur Marina project, out around the north coast highway to the golf course stopping at 3 condominium buildings and viewing Nah Ha, Peninsula Grand, and Palmas Realis 1C to give them a flavor of the beautiful oceanviews available in the north coast condominiums. We then went across the island on the Transversal Highway stopping at Punta Morena where everyone was greeted by our host Lic. Irvin Garcia, Notario #9 and owner of the Punta Morena beach club to a cool, refreshing drink. We proceeded on around the island stopping at the Captain Eduado Toledo Aerodromo, a new private airport with plans to construct hotels, condominiums, private homes, a golf course in a 580.40 hector development with sales beginning December 2012. Stay tuned for further information on this wonderful project. After having a cool drink in the hanger, we proceeded onto the Landmark condominium building for a tour and lunch at the Money Bar with presentations by Capt. Toledo and his biologist. Fernando Barbachano, Mayaland Resorts, gave a presentation on his proposed project on the far northeast side of the island. All realtors seemed very pleased with their tour of Cozumel and wished they would have had more time to spend on the island.
Congratulations to Cristina and Susana they took the AMPI (Mexican Board of Realtors) test and became official certified realtors!
