(Mexico's version of Halloween)
The Day of the Dead holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private alters called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed. Although it orginiated in Mexico, Dia de los Muertos is now celebrated in many different parts of the world. This special holiday is altered to adapt to where its being celebrated but the overall meaning is usually the same. |
