Nearly 2,000 athletes from 54 countries participate in Ironman Cozumel 2024
The 7:00 a.m. start marked the sixteenth edition of Ironman Cozumel. The Magical Town of Cozumel welcomed 1,951 triathletes from 54 countries, including nearly 100 professional triathletes, who compete alongside participants in age categories.

Company SSA México SA de CV has submitted their paperwork for approval of the private project that would connect two commercial establishments.
The project, Pedestrian connectivity between the shopping malls of the International Cruise Terminal and Park Royal in Cozumel, was submitted November 12. In its Environmental Impact Statement, the company says the project is for the construction of a 105-meter-long tunnel under a municipal road. If approved, the underground pedestrian walkway would be built under Rafael E. Melgar Avenue with two ascent/descent transition areas to connect both shopping malls..Read more>>>
More than 700 sea turtle nests recorded at Punta Sur during 2024 season
The Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC) concluded the “2024 Sea Turtle Protection Program” with the registration of 747 turtle nests at the Punta Sur Turtle Camp.
The FPMC says of the nests, 619 correspond to Chelonia mydas turtles (white or green) and 128 to the Caretta Caretta species (loggerhead). During the season, 212 volunteers participated in the monitoring and protection of turtles.

Apiqroo to install high tech security cameras at ferry terminal
The Quintana Roo Port Authority (Apiqroo) says they will reinforce security and surveillance at the ferry terminals with high-tech cameras. The state agency will start the bidding process before year’s end to launch the program.
The General Director of Administración Portuaria Integral de Quintana Roo (Apiqroo), Vagner Elbiorn Vega, says the surveillance system will allow for better monitoring at the ferry terminals.
According to Vega, Cozumel will be the state’s first ferry terminal to be outfitted with the cameras. He says Apiqroo is preparing the corresponding bidding processes to launch the program as soon as possible, which will provide video surveillance equipment that will be linked to C5….Read more>>>
