Cozumel reports increase in domestic tourism

Domestic tourism to Cozumel increased significantly in the first half of 2025. Island records first ever sighting of jabiru stork

A jabiru stork, an endangered species, was sighted on the island of Cozumel for the first time ever. The sighting was confirmed by the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC) and is considered a historically significant event for the island. The jabiru stork is characterized by its white plumage, black head and beak, and a red stripe on its neck, and its natural habitat includes wetlands and swamps. This discovery highlights the importance of Cozumel as a refuge for endangered species and the value of citizen involvement in conservation.

XIII Mexican Coral Reef Congress 2025

The XII Mexican and IV Pan American Coral Reef Congress will be held in Cozumel from October 13-17, 2025.

Organized by CONANP, UNAM, and UQROO, the event is expected to draw participants from over 70 educational institutions in Mexico and other countries. The primary goals of the congress are to further research on Cozumel’s reef system and to promote environmental education, giving the community access to information so they can help protect the reefs.
