Oceanman Cozumel

Oceanman Cozumel is an annual open water swimming event held on the picturesque island of Cozumel, Mexico. Known for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, Cozumel offers an ideal setting for this international competition.

The event features various distances to accommodate different skill levels, typically including:

  • Half Oceanman: Around 5-6 km

  • Oceanman: Around 10 km

  • Oceanman Popular: A shorter, more accessible distance, often 1.5-2 km

Cozumel’s Sea Turtle Season: 30 Nests Already!

Cozumel’s beaches are active! 30 sea turtle nests (29 loggerhead, 1 green) are already recorded. The Municipal Sea Turtle Protection Committee is boosting monitoring and community involvement for a successful season. Please help protect them on the eastern beaches: respect markers, leash pets, keep clean, and report sightings.

Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Program

Cozumel, a major tourist destination, is facing severe coral reef bleaching due to overtourism and climate change. To combat this, the Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Program (CCRRP), founded by Dr. German Mendez, is actively working to restore and protect the reefs.

The CCRRP establishes coral nurseries using underwater platforms to grow coral fragments, which are then replanted onto damaged and new artificial reefs. They also incorporate 3D-printed structures made with sargassum to promote coral growth. Over seven years, the program has planted more than 10,000 corals across 2,153 square feet. The CCRRP relies on volunteers and donations and educates the public about coral ecology and sustainable growth.
