Hundreds Paddle to Cozumel in Annual Sacred Journey
Cozumel recently hosted its annual Sacred Journey, witnessing around 360 canoeists paddle 33 kilometers from Playa del Carmen. This ancient “Conjuro al Cielo” ritual honors the goddess Ixchel, connecting Mayan heritage to the present. The challenging voyage, ending at Chankanaab Natural Park, was met with cheers and a vibrant Mayan ceremony, celebrating culture and tradition.

Cozumel’s beaches are active! 30 sea turtle nests (29 loggerhead, 1 green) are already recorded. The Municipal Sea Turtle Protection Committee is boosting monitoring and community involvement for a successful season.
